For rigid plastic tanks, KBS Tank Sealer is used to coat and seal the interior of the tank — protecting against fuel weeping or leaking. Because plastic requires a different surface prep approach than metal, a modified 3-step process is used with Fusion SEP as an adhesion promoter before applying Tank Sealer.
Plastic Tank Process This is a modified process for rigid plastic tanks only. It differs from the standard metal tank process — the key addition is Fusion SEP, which prepares the plastic surface for proper Tank Sealer adhesion. |
Step 1 — Clean the Tank with KBS Klean
Thoroughly clean the inside of the rigid plastic tank with KBS Klean. Rinse completely and allow the tank to dry until it is fully bone dry before moving on to Step 2.
Pro Tip — Bone Dry Matters Any remaining moisture will prevent Fusion SEP from bonding properly to the plastic surface. Do not rush this step — the tank must be completely dry before proceeding. |
Step 2 — Apply Fusion SEP Adhesion Promoter
Pour an amount of Fusion SEP into the dry tank. Slowly rotate and roll the tank until all interior surfaces are evenly coated. Work the Fusion SEP for up to 10 minutes, then drain out all excess.
Pro Tip — Very Thin Film is Normal Fusion SEP is an adhesion promoter — it is designed to go on in a very thin, nearly invisible film. This is expected and correct. Do not attempt to apply additional coats. |
Step 3 — Apply Tank Sealer
Follow Step 3 — Tank Sealer from the complete KBS Tank Sealer Directions. Be very careful to rotate the tank slowly and evenly to avoid letting the Tank Sealer puddle in low spots.
Important — Avoid Puddling Puddles of Tank Sealer can cause adhesion and cure problems. Keep the tank rotating slowly and evenly throughout the coating process to maintain a consistent, even film across all interior surfaces. |
