Do I need to use KBS Klean and RustBlast on sandblasted metal?
If the surface has been freshly sandblasted with clean media and handled only with clean, gloved hands, you can typically skip the KBS Klean and RustBlast steps.
CRITICAL: If the metal has been touched with bare hands — transferring skin oils — or has sat for more than a few hours in a humid or dirty environment, we strongly recommend the full 3-step process to ensure maximum coating adhesion. |
How soon after sandblasting should I apply RustSeal?
For best results, apply RustSeal immediately after sandblasting. Fresh sandblasted metal is at its most receptive state — the sooner you coat, the better the bond.
PRO TIP: If the metal sits for more than a few hours, surface oxidation can begin to form. At that point, apply RustBlast to re-etch and reactivate the surface before coating — then proceed with RustSeal as normal. |
